Pozdrav prijatelji

I have a new project, a T-34/85 used by the Croatian army, I'm using an old Tamiya kit brand, I am leading in the model that made Miguel Jimenez (Mig) I have some doubts ....

What camouflage scheme used T-34/85 used by the Croatian army during the Balkan War? ... and why some models of tanks T-34 used tires T-55 tanks?

P.S What does the letters ZNG?

Greetings

HI!

ZNG stands for Zbor Narodne Garde or literaly Croatian national guard.(It was the first so caled army we have established in 1991.Later came the brigades and so on.
For my croatian tanks i always use Faded Olive drab from modelmaster because all of Yugoslaw vehicles where in that colour and when we captured them usually the crew members would just spray over a colour of yellow or brown.

For the tires i cant help you.

You can use also Revell 361 with some white (~10-15%) for base color. That color (also called SMB (sivomaslinasta) or grey-olive color) was applied on all JNA vehicles and at the start of the war most camouflage schemes consisted of black, brown and dark green stripes over the base color.

If i recall correctly, tanks were "overhauled" in Yugoslavia so T-55 wheels replaced the old ones. During the 1980s T-34s were relegated for reserve duties (mostly kept in storage) and when the fighting started they were hastly relegated to frontline.

Citat:

No Strina it stands LITERARY 'Assembly of national gard' or in english grammar "National gard's assembly" Wink
Dušan check this page for some photos of late war camuflage T-34 taken after the war in storage, go to left at section called OKOHODAC (walkaround) an at the bottom of the page you'll find some walkarounds of T-34/85:

Dusan,
painting scheme on Miguel Jimenez T-34 is "what-if". There was never a Croatian T-34 painted like that.
Like Poky said here is walkaround of Yugoslav T-34 in Belgrade museum

http://www.hrcappuccino.org/articles/okohodac/T-34B.htm

Also here is explanation of different version of T-34/85 used in Croatia and Yugoslavia (in croatian language, but we can translate it for you if google translator doesn't do the job)

http://www.hrcappuccino.org/articles/misc/VerzijeT-34.htm

T-34 "starfish" wheels are not the same as T-55 wheels (small openings for water drain are different shape). Here is my Cro T-34 build with explanation of differences in wheels.

Dusan, you are right. Concord "Balkans on fire" was my reference for building the kit (plus another picture of this tank taken from behind), and same reference was used by Mig Jimenez. Unfortunately he combined this pictures with pictures of Croatian M-84 from same book to create striking, but completely SF camuflage sheme.

Anyway here is picture of another T-34 , that I didn't have when I build my model. If I had it I would rather do this "Leopard". What is interesting in this photo is the man with mustaches. This si Andrija Matijaš -Pauk, probably the finest Croatian tank commander. He was KIA on October 9th, 1995. and croatian 4. brigade is named after him "Pauci" (Spiders).
